Basically, if you fail to avoid the memories of your wife during gameplay you will get this ending. The wife ending: this is the one most people get their first playthrough. The game is essentially your character reliving these events and trying to reach a conclusion to his own inner battles. The dismemberment of his wife becomes revealed to the public and social services takes the painter’s daughter away from him, leaving him completely alone. He decided to use various body parts from her corpse to add to his next painting, thinking the organic materials would give him his masterpiece. The painter was mortified, mostly with himself. When she finally couldn’t take it anymore, she took a kitchen knife into the bathroom and took her own life. He began spending more time locked up in his work room drinking and painting.Īt this point he was ignoring his family completely.Īs a result the wife was stuck being the only one caring for their child despite her horrible injuries and negative self image (mainly caused by her husband). The painter was furious and his problems became more severe. While he was passed out drunk one night, she burned all of his paintings, including his more successful works from the past. His wife began to hate him with a passion. This only made him obsess with it and paint more, spending all of his time painting and heavily drinking, neglecting his family even further. Some of his works became gruesome and caused people to ridicule him and question his sanity. The painter, who was once successful, became a colossal failure and the laughing stock of critics. The painter also became obsessed with a rat problem the house supposedly had, but this could’ve been in his head. The painter developed a severe drinking habit and began neglecting his wife and daughter in hopes to create his next “masterpiece.” The painter became hysterical about her loosing her beauty and began lashing out at her surgeon through angry, threatening letters.

She was horribly disfigured by the burns. They were a happy family until one of the wife’s venues caught on fire while she was performing. The two were deeply in love and had a daughter together. The painter was married to a very successful concert pianist. After enough playthroughs, I finally feel like I have a pretty good understanding of the exact timeline the game portrays.
